William Furman murdered William Micke on August 11, 1967 in Savannah, Georgia. Furman was unemployed, and only had a sixth grade education. William Furman became depressed, and started to commit theft for food and money. Furman was caught stealing several times, but was only given a light sentence. At 2 a.m. on August 11, William Furman broke into the house of William Micke, while Micke and his five children were sleeping. William Micke heard a noise and went downstairs to see where the noise was coming from. He spotted Furman, and Furman ran for the back door. William Furman tripped over an exposed wire and the gun in Furman’s hand went off. The bullet hit William Ficke, killing him instantly. The Furman v. Georgia case started in the district court and then moved up to the appellate court. Furman was sentenced to death by the appellate court after a one day trial. The film, Max, was directed by Menno Meyjes and those who stared included John Cusack (Max Rothman) and Noah Taylor (Adolf Hitler) among others. The major theme in the movie is the aftermath of the First World War where by, after the collapse of the Kaiser Imperial Reich, the Germans entered in to the newly created Weimer Republic and were faced with the problems of unemployment, poverty and great difference between the haves and have-nots. The essence of the essay is to discuss the major theme, how it’s presented in the film and the reasons for the historical/ cultures values presented in them film. This film teaches the evolution of a culture that resulted to horrors of the Nazi leading to the cold war. There are some flaws in the film where by it concentrates too much on Max’s life’ despite good performances by actors like Cusack. Though good, the cinematography and direction does not also display Germany as it would have been   after the First world war but Germany is displayed like it is in the 20th century therefore the discussions between Max and Hitler aren’t in a historical context. Adam and Tyrone, both soldiers from the U.S., were in an airplane bombing the Australians when a surprise attack from the Aussies caused their plane to catch fire. Both boys were equipped with parachutes and ready to jump to their safety on the groundJust jump Adam! Tyrone screamed over Adams trembling shoulders.
